response to hurricane katrina. other media outlets covered it as well. but what was not covered then was senator obama's praise for his controversial pastor jeremiah wright. the additional comments what about he called disparity in the way new orleans got federal assistance after katrina and his charge that that was because of race. >> there is a law, federal law when you get reconstruction money from the federal government called the stafford act. basically it says when you get federal money you have to give a 10% match, local government has to come up with 10%. every $10 federal government comes up with, local government has to give $1. now here is the thing. when 9/11 happened in new york city, they waived the stafford act and said this is too serious a problemch we can't expect new york city to rebuild on its own. forget that dollar you have to put in. here is $10. that was the right thing to d do. when hurricane andrew struck in florida, people said look at this devastation. we don't expect you to come up with your own money here. here is the money to rebuild. we're in the

prepared remarks talking about how he says victims of katrina got shortchanged by the bush administration. >> what happened down in new orleans? where's your dollar? makes no sense. tells me the bullet hasn't been taken out. tells me that somehow the people down in new orleans, they don't care about as much. >> hannity then played this clip. >> we don't need to build more highways out in the suburbs if we have people in the cities right now who want to work but have no way to get to those jobs. >> hannity then came out and said this. >> this is what so-called unbiased journalists have been trying to hide for years, a glimpse into the mind of the real barack obama. and it's one that all americans need to pay close attention to. >> did journalists hide that? our research shows they did not. we dug into cnn's archives and found references in our coverage to the portion of the speech where obama talks about new orleans. this was on paula zahn's program the night before the speech. >> now nearly two years after hurricane katrina hit new orleans, obama insists our country still ignores communit

, katrina, fema. he tried to redeem himself by adding that enemies of the u.s. have to be hunted down. the breakthrough came through the 14th primary face-off when asking hillary clinton about eliot spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. >> do you support his plan? >> tim, this is where everybody plays gotcha. it makes a lot of sense. what is the governor supposed to do? he's dealing with a serious problem. >> i was confused on senator clinton's answer. i can't tell whether she was for it or against it. parts of leadership is not just lo looking backwards and seeing what's popular or trying to gauge popular sentiment. it's about setting a direction for the country. >> the president is best what he's able to sharpen his responses and throw a punch. he was able to elevate himself in the debates with john mccain in moments like this one. >> in a short career, he does not understand our national security challenges. we don't have time for on the job training, my friend. >> senator mccain in the last debate and today again suggested i don't understand. it's true. t

. . host: laura is a republican. hi, laura, you are on. caller: i wanted to say to katrina, if you want to talk about common sense policies, maybe you need to listen to rush limbaugh and maybe you need to really listen to what mr. romney said about this economy. if you are concerned about poverty, do you know that the number one group tracked in poverty is single thing all households -- single female soul? you need to look at stuff that the conservatives are saying because they care about the portrait they don't want people trapped in poverty. they know what small businesses, which employs 60-70% of the citizens and in this country, taxed more. if you tax small business, they are not going to hire. i don't know how you don't figure out what mr. romney so eloquently said in that debate. talking about politics of the 1% or the 47%, conservatives want the best for all folks, and yes, we mean thewe don't want them trapped in poverty. we want them married, paying their taxes -- host: we will get katrina vanden heuvel's response. guest: yeah. listen, if marriage will promote the well-being of

president obamab talking about race, the reverend wright and hurricane katrina. what are voters telling you? are these videos resonating? >> these voters are so worn down not only from the primary here in the state of new hampshire but over the past several months with the attack ads, back and forth, i don't know that they recognize either of the candidates if they weren't in slow motion in black and white. at the end of the day, i think what the voters are looking for is unless it's an extremely radical video, showing something -- even the 47% video which seemed to resonate with a lot of the country, that wasn't as big of a deal here in new hampshire. what people are looking for is what their solution is for jobs, the economy and things that are more substantive than viral videos unless it's, as i said, something really extreme. >> we'll look forward to some answers, honest answers. paul westcott, thank you. -[ taste buds ] donuts, donuts! -who are these guys? -oh, that's just my buds. -bacon. -my taste buds. -[ taste buds ] donuts. how about we try this new kind of fiber one cereal? you t

among other things of the government's response to hurricane katrina. >> when hurricane andrew struck in florida, people said, look at this devastation. we don't expect you to come up with your own money. here. here's the money to rebuild. we're not going to wait for you to scratch it together. because you're part of the american family. what's happening down in new orleans? where's your dollar? where's your stafford act money? it makes no sense. it tells me the bullet hasn't been taken out. it tells me that somehow the people down in new orleans, they don't care about as much. >> so at the same time yesterday, there was another video posted on the huffington post showing congressman paul ryan speaking in november of 2011 about ten months ago about a moral tipping point in the united states. that was six months before mitt romney's 47% remarks. >> before too long, we could become a society we were never, ever intended to be. we could become a society where the net majority of americans are takers, not makers. today, 70% of americans get more benefits from the federal government in dol
